Terms and Conditions 

The purpose of this project is to preserve Marion County’s history by collecting the personal stories  and historical accounts of the people who lived it, specifically related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your Rights

This project is voluntary. You do not have to answer any question that you do not wish to answer. You may stop your participation at any time during the process. If you do not want to be identified by name, we will work with you to protect your identity and you will not be asked specific questions about the identification of your parents or relatives. Your personal contact information such as your address and/or telephone number will not be disclosed to the public by Marion County Heritage Center. 

Deposit of Materials

By participating in any aspect of this data collection process, you agree to have both the original texts, photos, audio and/or video as well as any final products stored in the collections of the Marion County Heritage Center. Original artifacts will be available for use by researchers, teachers, students, or other qualified individuals. Participants in this collection will be notified before any research results by other individuals or organizations is publicly displayed or published. The materials may also be used for public display or publication by the Marion County History Center.

Your Risks and Benefits

Your participation in this project assumes or includes:

  • Your submissions to the project may, with your permission, become a part of the Marion County History Center’s permanent, public, or online archive.

  • As with any significant historical event, participants and/or the public may not agree with the opinions or interpretations you may express during this project. This could include family members or members of the general public. However, the MCHC will work with all participants to ensure that personal contact information for each participant is not released by the MCHC.

  • Participation in this project is vital to historical records. Your participation in this event helps us to record and preserve our community history. Depending on the amount of interest the project receives, you may gain public recognition for your participation in this project.

You Agree to the Following

By submitting to the archive (by the online form,  email, or through social media by labeling your video with the hashtag #MCHCCovid19Project) you agree to the following terms of service and that you have read (or have had read to you) the contents of this form and understand it.

I hereby convey to the Marion County History Center (hereafter referred to as “the Center”), legal title and assign all literary property rights, including copyright, which I may have in the materials I uploaded to the Marion County Heritage Center’s project site as part of its COVID-19 history project.

The text, audio, or video recording and (potentially) a full transcript will be housed at the MCHC as part of its collection, to be available for research, and to be administered in accordance with the MCHC policies. The Center shall also have the right to use, reproduce, exhibit, or publish this material. It is understood that this agreement covers original recordings and any transcript or other reproduction of the originals made by the Center. This agreement does not preclude any use of the information in the texts, recordings, photos or artifacts.
