Who We Are
From the stills of 19th-century Catholic settlers, to 20th-century rock 'n' roll hangouts, to the 21st-century bourbon boom—our history is all around us. The Marion County Historical Society preserves and shares that history through rotating exhibits, educational programs, and events hosted throughout the community.

What does the MCHS do?
The Marion County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of our community.
We protect historical records, photographs, artifacts, and stories that reflect the people and events that have shaped Marion County.
Through exhibits, educational programs, research assistance, and community outreach, we make local history accessible and engaging for residents, students, and visitors.
Our mission is to keep Marion County’s history alive, meaningful, and available for future generations to learn from and enjoy.

On our website you will find Marion Memoirs, our local history journal featuring stories, research, and reflections on Marion County’s past. You can also explore our Digital Archives, an ever-growing, searchable resource that includes photographs, yearbooks, ledgers, newspaper clippings, and more.
We offer an online bookstore with local history books and works by local authors, along with program offerings for schools and community organizations designed to bring local history into classrooms, groups, and public spaces in engaging and meaningful ways.
The Historical Society also hosts traveling exhibits from the Kentucky Historical Society and welcomes speakers through Kentucky Humanities. In addition to our on-site exhibits, we are actively expanding our presence by developing exhibits in public spaces throughout the community, making local history more visible and accessible to everyone.
