Our Programs:
Footprints & Fossils: Geological and Indigenous Histories of Marion County
Step back in time to explore Marion County’s earliest stories—written in stone and shaped by the people who first called this place home. This combined exhibit traces the region’s geological past, from an ancient lake to local rock formations and fossils, and connects it to the lives of the earliest Indigenous inhabitants.

Visitors will learn how changing landscapes influenced Paleoindian settlement, including the plants they cultivated, the animals they hunted, and how early communities lived alongside now-extinct megafauna. Interactive elements, including fossil identification and hands-on activities, help bring these deep histories to life.

Lebanon’s Civil War History
Explore the timeline of Civil War events that took place in Lebanon, highlighting key local figures, landmarks, and the three battles of Lebanon. This program examines what life was like for residents during the war and how the conflict shaped the community. Activities include a crossword puzzle.

Community Connection
When employees and visitors come to Marion County, understanding the community matters just as much as understanding the job.

Community Connection is a short, engaging program offered by the Marion County Historical Society that introduces visiting teams, new hires, and out-of-area employees to the history, people, and culture of the place they're working in.

In one visit, participants gain a clear, big-picture understanding of Marion County-past and present-and how the community they see today came to be.

Presented in English or Japanese.
