William T. Knott (1822-1899) was the son of Joseph Percy and Marie McElroy Knott, and the brother of Kentucky Governor Proctor Knott. He was born on a farm on Cherry Run near Raywick in Marion County (then Washington County). He was a teacher and principal of Lebanon Academy on what is now Kobert Avenue in Lebanon. He was the first superintendent of schools in Marion County (1889-1898). He was first married to Marian B. McElroy and they had four children. His second wife was Lydia McElroy.
